SocialQ is proud to offer AboutFace

  • AboutFace is a tool designed to study how humans, especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), perceive non-verbal communication cues.

  • AboutFace is designed primarily as a Research Tool to demonstrate that Mirroring Exercises using AboutFace improve Users’ ability to recognize non-verbal communication cues and appropriately and mindfully empathize with others’ emotions- as told by their Affect

  • Cues are little hints.  Actors use Cue Cards to remind them of their lines.  Humans give verbal cues all the time by speaking, arguing, yelling – so much so that it can get noisy!

  • Our world is also full of Non-Verbal Communication, or unspoken messages sent between people.  This includes Facial Expressions, hand & finger gestures, pheromones, etc. Sometimes we describe the totality of Non-Verbal communication information as “Affect”.

Some of these messages are hardwired into what makes us human beginning with empathy, morality and spiritual wonder transmitted wordlessly by a nursing mother lovingly gazing into her newborn’s eyes.

AboutFace

Mirroring, Autism, Empathy & “Reading the Room”

AboutFace was designed for those people, such as many with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), have difficulty picking up non-verbal communication cues

  • AboutFace is designed as a Research Tool to demonstrate that Mirroring Exercises using AboutFace can improve Users’ ability to recognize non-verbal communication cues and appropriately celebrate with, empathize with, and be ‘[mindful of others’ emotions as told on their faces!

  • SocialQ believes that we can Train increased perception and understanding of Emotions for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by using Mirroring Training in AboutFace.

  • SocialQ also believes that increased perception and understanding of Emotions leads to a greater overall level of empathy, connectedness and quality of life for people with ASD and their friends and families.

Through mirroring, attachment to caregivers helps the immature brain use the mature functions of the parent’s brain to organize its own processes.
